Heat escaping from the core causes swirling movements called <strong>convection currents<\/strong>, setting off the whole process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The core is made of iron alloys and has two parts: a<strong> solid inner core<\/strong> and a <strong>liquid outer core. <\/strong>The outer core&#8217;s liquid moves because the inner core is hot and heat makes the liquid flow. This heat comes from the inner core being very hot (5,200\u00b0 Celsius).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"740\" height=\"740\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.infinityvision.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.infinityvision.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image.png 740w, https:\/\/blog.infinityvision.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.infinityvision.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The outer core&#8217;s movement is affected by heavy materials sinking towards it and the decay of <strong>radioactive <\/strong>elements inside the Earth. How the liquid flows is influenced by how the Earth rotates and the presence of the solid inner core.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Earth&#8217;s magnetic north pole is, in fact, the south pole of the Earth&#8217;s magnet.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The magnetic north pole of Earth is actually like the south pole of a giant magnet inside our planet. They call it the magnetic north pole to avoid confusion. It&#8217;s named this way because if they called it the magnetic south pole, it could be confusing, especially since it&#8217;s so close to the geographic north pole.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earth&#8217;s <strong>magnetosphere<\/strong> wards off the solar wind, preventing erosion of our atmosphere and safeguarding against harmful effects of coronal mass ejections and cosmic rays. Functioning as a gatekeeper, the magnetosphere traps most unwanted energy in twin doughnut-shaped <strong>Van Allen Belts<\/strong>, maintaining a safe distance from Earth&#8217;s surface.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"442\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.infinityvision.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-1-1024x442.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.infinityvision.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-1-1024x442.png 1024w, https:\/\/blog.infinityvision.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-1-300x130.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.infinityvision.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-1-768x332.png 768w, https:\/\/blog.infinityvision.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-1.png 1480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, this dynamic interaction between charged particles and Earth&#8217;s magnetic field contributes to the mesmerizing <strong>natural light displays<\/strong> known as the <strong>northern lights (aurora borealis)<\/strong> in the Northern Hemisphere and the <strong>southern lights (aurora australis) <\/strong>in the Southern Hemisphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.infinityvision.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.infinityvision.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-2.png 900w, https:\/\/blog.infinityvision.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-2-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.infinityvision.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-2-768x512.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Another interesting fact about Earth&#8217;s magnetic field that is it isn&#8217;t constant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Earth&#8217;s magnetic field has reversed every few hundred thousand years.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over geological time, the earth&#8217;s magnetic field has undergone reversals, where the magnetic north and south poles switch places.&nbsp; The time intervals between reversals have fluctuated widely, but average about 300,000 years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>But how do we know this?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Evidence of Earth&#8217;s magnetic history is concealed in rocks, a scientific discipline called <strong>paleomagnetism<\/strong>.
