The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an engineering entrance exam conducted for admission to B.E./B.Tech/B.Planning/B.Arch. It is one of India’s most competitive exams for getting admission into some top engineering institutions like IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs.
JEE is conducted in two phases: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. The JEE 2025 exam is currently in progress and we have compiled a brief overview of everything you might be curious to know about JEE Main and Advanced 2025. This guide will cover topics of eligibility, exam patterns, key dates, registration details, etc.
JEE Main 2025
The first stage of the JEE exam- JEE Main is conducted by the National Testing Agency. It takes place in two sessions every year- One of which takes place in January, and the other one in April. JEE Main is a CBT-based exam, a qualifying exam for JEE Advanced. This is a computer-based exam and consists of two papers:
Exam Structure
Paper 1
- This paper is conducted for students wishing to pursue B.Tech and BE courses at NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, etc. It also serves as a prerequisite for JEE Advanced, which is necessary for entry into IITs.
- Syllabus and Marks- Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) – 75 questions, 300 marks
Paper 2A & 2B
- This paper is conducted for students wishing to pursue B.Arch (Paper 2A) and B.Planning (Paper 2B).
- Paper 2A Syllabus– Mathematics, Aptitude, and Drawing – 400 marks.
- Paper 2B Syllabus– Mathematics, Aptitude, and Planning – 400 marks.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Class 12 (or equivalent exam) in 2023, 2024, or appearing in 2025.
- There is no age limit for students.
- The student should have compulsorily studied PCM in Class 12.
- Open to Indian citizens, NRIs, PIOs, and OCIs.
Key Dates:
- Session 1: January 22–30, 2025
- Session 2: April 1–8, 2025
- Results: February 12 (Session 1), April 17 (Session 2)
JEE Advanced 2025
The top 2.5 lakh candidates who qualify for JEE Main are eligible for the JEE Advanced. This exam is conducted by different IITs on a rotational basis. JEE Main Advanced 2025 is to be conducted by IIT Kanpur. This is also a computer-based exam and consists of two compulsory papers:
Exam Structure:
- Papers: Two compulsory papers (PCM), each of 3 hours
- Marking Scheme: Varies (Full, partial, and negative marking)
Eligibility:
- The student is required to clear JEE Main and rank within the top 2.5 lakh.
- Born on or after October 1, 2000 (additional relaxation given for SC/ST/PwD).
- A maximum of two attempts are allowed for students within consecutive years.
Key Dates:
- Registration: April 23 – May 5, 2025
- Exam Date: May 18, 2025
- Result: June 2, 2025
